Quake reserve petition presented at Parliament

A petition calling for a reserve to be made out of earthquake-damaged land in Christchurch has been presented to Parliament.

The Avon-Otakaro Network collected more than 18,500 signatures in support of the reserve.

Allan and Helen Campbell, former red zone residents from Bexley, presented the petition to Christchurch MPs Lianne Dalziel and Eugenie Sage on Wednesday.

The network says the red-zoned residential land bordering the Avon River could be an ecological and economic asset for the damaged city's east.

Mr Campbell and his wife lived in Bexley for 48 years before their house was destroyed by the February 2011 quake and says creating a reserve will be good for future generations.

Lianne Dalziel, the Labour MP for Christchurch East, is sponsoring the petition in Parliament.
