All Blacks to wear armbands to mark tragedy

The All Blacks will wear white armbands in the Test against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday to mark the Pike River mining tragedy.

The Wales Rugby Union has agreed to a request by the New Zealand Rugby Union for a minute's silence before kick-off.

All Blacks assistant coach Steve Hansen says he suggested white armbands because people would be able to see them on the black jerseys.

He hopes they will show the families back home that the All Blacks' thoughts are with them.

Hansen said the news of the second explosion on Wednesday hit the team hard.

New Zealand Rugby Union president John Sturgeon was a coal miner and had been involved in the industry for 38 years.
