Solomons police looking for new blood

9:02 am on 16 October 2014

The new police commissioner of Solomon Islands says the force needs new leadership and he will be advertising positions soon.

Frank Prendergast says people have filled acting positions for too long and it is important for the future to have people settle in specific roles.

Two senior executives, Walter Kola and Nela Mosese, have recently resigned, and Mr Prendergast says it is time for fresh blood.

"Clearly there's some issues around leadership that need to be addressed and we're addressing those. We had some very senior officers leave after very long contributions to the RSIPF but we've got to now build for the future and one of my key objectives early on is to get a solid executive in place that can give the RSIPF the leadership that it needs and deserves."

Frank Prendergast says he will shortly advertise the positions of Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Chief Superintendent, as well as superintendent and inspector positions.

He says Juanita Matanga will hold the Deputy Commissioner role for the foreseeable future.
