Axiom wins again in Solomons' courts

7:34 am on 10 October 2014

The Solomon Islands Court of Appeal has dismissed an application by the Japanese mining company Sumitomo for an interim injunction against Australian company Axiom Mining.

The pair have been involved in a long court battle over land and prospecting rights for nickel deposits in Isabel Province.

Yesterday's decision comes two weeks after a lower court had ruled in favor of Axiom.

Chief executive Ryan Mount says the company will recommence exploration of the Isabel nickel deposit this week.

"Axiom in partnership with our land owners on Isabel will start commencing development of this world class deposit so, initially we will start of with some environmental studies and some surface exploration and we will move on to some drilling and some further studies and hopefully we can move into mine development as soon as possible."
