A New Zealand opposition MP says she is standing by comments made last week about Nauru's immigration detention centres.
In a statement, Green MP Jan Logie called on New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key to raise human rights issues surrounding the camps with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
She said Nauru was descending into a state of chaos and ignoring the rule of law as part of efforts to shut down criticism of the camps.
But in its own statement, the Nauru government denied the country was in chaos, calling the comments a display of international bullying, arrogance and racism and asked for an open apology from the Green Party.
Ms Logie says she won't be apologising for her comments.
"I am never going to apologise for raising human rights issues, but if there are other kinds of things in our statement that offended the Nauruan government then I'm really happy to talk to them about that."
