NIWA's climate summary for February shows the month was extremely cloudy and cooler than usual in many places.
It was an extremely cloudy month with sunshine hours well below normal from Hamilton to Dunedin.
Conditions were the cloudiest on record for Dannevirke, Waipawa, Stratford, and Blenheim.
However, temperatures on the West Coast and Fiordland were above average and Fiordland received less than half its average February rainfall.
NIWA says the highest temperature recorded was 30.4 degrees in Hastings on 23 February. The lowest was -0.2 degrees at Chateau Ruapehu on 28 February.
The highest one day rainfall was 275mm, recorded at North Egmont on 22 February.
