Two men have appeared in the Queenstown District Court charged with stealing over $300,000 worth of stock from farms in the Central Otago area during the past two years.

Police allege the men stole deer and merino wethers from several properties.

Dean Herd is facing 27 charges, however he pleaded guilty to six counts on Monday and will reappear on 24 April.

Mr Herd was ordered to surrender his passport and reside at an address in Motuekea.

Simon Hawkins is charged with 24 offences and was remanded on bail to appear for a post-committal conference on 24 April.

His lawyer says he vehemently denies the charges and intends to plead not guilty.

Mr Hawkins must reside at an address in Wanaka.
