The body of a diver missing off the coast of Kaikoura has been found.
The 32-year-old American man went missing at about 7pm on Saturday while diving south of Kaikoura with a group of nine other people.
A search was launched within an hour but had to be suspended due to fading light.
Sergeant Barry Hansen says members of the Police National Dive Squad found the man's body just before midday on Sunday.
He says the man was snorkelling for paua and drowned after he became trapped in some kelp.
Mr Hansen says the man had been in New Zealand for about two weeks with a group from Habitat for Humanity.
