High hopes for new ski pass

Promoters of a new ski field network estimate it could bring an additional $60 million in tourism revenue to the South Island.

OnePassNZ will offer skiers and snowboarders access to eight resorts, including Cardrona and Treble Cone.

The marketing manager of Treble Cone ski resort, Nigel Kerr, says the pass is initially being targeted at Australian tourists who may not be aware of the quality and variety of New Zealand's ski fields.

Mr Kerr says the scheme is looking to raise awareness of ski fields outside Queenstown and to show Australian visitors that there's a lot of good skiing in in this country.

He says OnePassNZ will appeal to older skiers and families and could attract an extra 40,000 visitors a year.
