Anger at timeline for leaving red zone

11:02 am on 15 February 2012

A Christchurch homeowner whose property has just been placed in the red zone is angry he has been given the same deadline for leavingas those whose homes were put in the red zone last year.

More than 200 orange zone properties were moved into the red zone last week, which means their owners must abandon the land.

They have been given nine months to consider the Government's purchase offer and until April 2013 to leave their properties.

While he is not unhappy with the zoning decision, Avonside resident Don Mathias says the time frame is unrealistic. He would like to see some flexibility on the deadline.
