Scrub fires in South Island

5:59 pm on 26 January 2012

The Fire Service has been battling four scrub fires in the South Island, with warm norwesterly winds fanning flames.

A fire in rural land near the Moutere Highway, in the Nelson region, was attended by up to seven fire appliances and a helicopter after being spotted at about 2.30pm on Thursday.

The fire is now largely out, but four appliances are still in attendance.

The Fire Service says three small scrub fires in the Selwyn District in the Canterbury Plains are all out now.
