Police Association president Greg O'Connor is confident an inquiry will show police were justified in shooting a man during a domestic incident in Manuerea on Saturday.
Police initially said the man they shot was armed with a knife and acting aggressively but neighbours say there was no knife and the police shot him in the leg three times, including twice as he limped away.
Mr O'Connor says there will be a thorough inquiry and it will be very easy to see how many shots were fired.
He believes interviews with all witnesses will show the police were justified in shooting the man.
