Coca-Cola Amatil New Zealand has opened its new $15 million bottling plant in Christchurch.

Managing director George Adams says the company has invested $9 million into infrastructure repair and re-establishing the operations at its Woolston site which suffered damage in both the September 2010 and February 2011 earthquakes.

Mr Adams says says the company has also received approval for a $5 million investment into the Woolston plant's automated distribution centre.

He says the investment is crucial for Christchurch as it continues to re-establish itself as a major business hub in the South Island.

Mr Adams says Coca-Cola Amatil employs about 140 staff in Christchurch, and 1100 nationwide.
