Boost for passengers' pockets if airport waives fee

8:32 pm on 6 January 2012

Wellington Airport is proposing removing its international departure fee for passengers.

Adults are charged $25, and children $10 when they leave the airport on an overseas trip.

The airport's acting chief executive John Howarth says removing the fee would ensure international travel is competitive and help to promote new routes to the city.

The airport is to discuss the proposal with the airlines before a final decision is made next month.

Auckland and Christchurch airports have both removed their international departure fees.
