Police in Tauranga are asking the public for help to solve an assault which has left a man in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital.
A police patrol found the 49-year-old victim, Russell Munday, with serious head injuries early on Thursday morning on Devonport Road.
ESR Scientists have examined a building on the road where it's believed Mr Munday was attacked, and found several items of interest.
Police want to hear from taxi drivers and members of the public who were in the area between 2.30am and 5am on Thursday.
They also want people in the central city to check their property for anything which could have been used as a weapon in the attack.
