Police advise those who partied into the early hours of New Years Day not to get behind the wheel until at least midday on Sunday.
Inspector John Kelly says people need to remember alcohol stays in their system for several hours.
He says alcohol levels continue to rise two hours after stopping drinking and take a further two hours to start to drop.
