Union members at the Ports of Auckland began a two-day strike from 7am on Friday.
It is the latest in a series of strikes over a collective contract. Two 24 hour strikes were held last week.
Maritime Union national president Garry Parsloe says the strike will immediately be called off if there is progress in negotiations.
He says the dispute is about private trucking companies being hired to do work at the port.
