A 27-year-old man accused of hitting two young girls with his car while he was driving under the influence of alcohol has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
An eight-year-old girl remained on Saturday in a stable condition in Starship Hospital while her 11-year-old friend is recovering at home.
The two were walking along Wordsworth Road in Manurewa at about 7.55pm on Thursday when they were struck by a car and thrown into an adjacent garden by the impact.
The man is charged with excess breath alcohol causing injury but police say further charges are likely.
He was to re-appear in the Manukau District Court on Wednesday.
