A High Court jury in Wellington has entered a guilty verdict against a man accused of planning to sexually attack an Upper Hutt teenager.

The jury deliberated for just over three hours before finding Justin Johnston, 41, guilty on a charge of attempted sexual violation.

Johnston was arrested in July 2010 after a man found him in his backyard in Upper Hutt.

The man's 16-year-old daughter was alone in a nearby sleepout.

The Crown said Johnston intended to sexually violate the girl, but he claimed he only intended to burgle the property.

Johnston pleaded guilty on Thursday morning to a charge of threatening to do grievous bodily harm to the girl's father.

He's been remanded in custody for sentencing in March 2012.
