Solid Energy has suspended all operations at its Ohai Mine in Southland following a vehicle accident.
The company has launched an investigation after a dump truck ran off the mines access road on Wednesday.
Solid Energy says the mine will be closed until all vehicles on the site have undergone a full safety check.
Communications manager Vicki Blyth says the driver of the vehicle, a contractor, was not hurt.
The mine will be closed for the duration of the investigation, which is expected to take several days.
