A strawberry seed kit sold at The Warehouse is being recalled because of a biosecurity risk.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry says the Buzzy Strawberry Mini Grow Kits, which contain small packages of strawberry seeds, a clay pot and potting mix, was not quarantined before it was released for sale.
More than 1300 kits were sold through The Warehouse stores between September and last weekend.
MAF says the kit could introduce viral diseases to fruit crops, but does not pose any risk to people.
It says people should remove the plants from their garden and wrap them in a sealed bag before disposing them in their household rubbish.
MAF says it is investigating why the seeds were not quarantined.
Horticulture New Zealand says the kits could introduce viral diseases to fruit crops.
President Andrew Fenton says the country faces a serious agriculture threat if the recall is not 100% effective.
