Three New Zealand Army medicscaught using drugs in Afghanistan were sent home early, charged and put into a military prison.
They arrived in Afghanistan in April for a six-month tour of duty, but two months later they were back in New Zealand charged with taking methoxyflurane, a powerful painkiller, recreationally.
Methoxyflurane is supposed to be reserved for alleviating pain from battlefield wounds.
The three were fined $1500 and sentenced to 28 days each in military prison.
Since serving their time they have been allowed to remain in the armed forces.
