A helicopter with several tourists on board, including a New Zealander, has crashed into New York's East River.
One woman was killed and the pilot and three other passengers were pulled alive from the water by rescue crews. Two were critically injured.
The ABC is reporting that the woman who died was a British woman who had been living in Sydney and that her friend, the New Zealand woman, was hurt.
The helicopter came down shortly after takeoff. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says it's thought it was upside down when it crashed but it wasn't clear what had caused it to spin out of control.
The Coast Guard says the river has been closed to commercial traffic.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed a New Zealander was aboard the helicopter.
