Two cases of suspected meningococcal disease have been reported in Taranaki. They were notified on the same day.
Medical officer of health Greg Simmons says they involve a child under 10 and a young adult.
One is still in hospital and the other has been discharged, but both are making a good recovery.
Results expected on Tuesday will confirm whether they are meningococcal disease and what strain.
Dr Simmons says it is unusual for Taranaki to have two cases so close together.
