Stun guns intercepted by Customs

New Zealand Customs has seized 30 stun guns after intercepting several packages sent from Thailand to an address in east Auckland.

A New Zealand man, 25, is charged with the importation, possession, and sale of the guns.

Customs says the man recently travelled to Thailand and arranged for the guns to be sent back to him disguised as torches.

During a search of the man's house, police and Customs officials found eight more stun guns which had been imported earlier.

Stun guns are banned in New Zealand and importing them carries a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment.
