A 19-year old woman has been charged with assaulting a woman who was stabbed in an incident in the Lower Hutt suburb of Naenae.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper says emergency services were called to a house in Cambridge Terrace just after 2pm on Tuesday.
A 35-year-old woman is in a serious condition in the intensive care unit at Wellington Hospital.
The woman accused of assault was to appear in the Lower Hutt District Court on Wednesday.
A scene examination was being carried out at the Cambridge Terrace property.
