A man is in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital with head injuries after an early morning assault.
Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard says the 25-year-old victim and two male friends were approached by a group of men opposite the Tournament carpark on Tory St about 3.50am on Thursday.
She says the victim has sustained significant head injuries as a result. One of his friends received an ankle injury and is also being treated in hospital.
Police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to, together with two people he was with.
[image:3060:half:right]They say he is wearing distinctive wooden rosary beads with a cross around his neck and had a tribal tattoo on his arm. He is tall, solidly built with short cropped hair and was wearing a purple t-shirt, dark grey or blue jeans and grey canvas shoes.
The two other Pacific men are aged in their early to mid twenties. One is of medium to solid build, tall, with brown spiky hair. He was wearing dark blue or black jeans, a blue or green t-shirt and white shoes, with a tribal tattoo on his right arm.
Anyone who either witnessed the assault or noticed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Courtenay Place and Tory Street between 3am and 4:30am is urged to contact Wellington Police as soon as possible on (04) 381 2000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
