7:32 pm on 9 September 2011

Police in Hawke's Bay have arrested a man in relation to a shooting at a Wairoa sportsground last week.

Joseph Gemmell, 39, turned himself in on Friday after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Police say Mr Gemmell was involved in an incident last Saturday where five shots were fired into the air as a crowd of people were leaving Lambton Square park after a rugby match. No one was injured.

The game was between a Raupunga team with Black Power connections and Tapuwai, which is aligned with the Mongrel Mob.

Police say they have received good information from the public in relation to the event.
