Top swimming official resigns

10:46 am on 3 September 2011

Swimming New Zealand's chair, Murray Coulter, has resigned in the wake of an independent report that describes the sport's high-performance programme as dysfunctional and lacking leadership.

Subsequent to the report, a group of regional delegates wrote a letter calling on the entire Swimming New Zealand board to resign.

Mr Coulter says he would like to play a part in planned changes to the sport, but his continued role as chair is acting as an impediment and he is standing down immediately.

Swimming New Zealand will hold its AGM in three weeks' time.
