A man convicted of murdering his tetraplegic friend has had a year cut off his non-parole period.
Eric Neil Smail was jailed for life with a miniumum non-parole sentence of 14 years after being convicted of murdering Keith McCormick in Christchurch in July 2005.
Smail was caring for Mr McCormick at the time.
He went to the Court of Appeal seeking to substitute manslaughter for the murder conviction and to overturn both his life sentence and his conviction.
The Court of Appeal reduced his non parole period to 13 years but upheld the other matters.
