A mental health official in Tasmania has been named as the new director of mental health in New Zealand.
John Crawshaw will take up the position in Wellington in November.
He is the chief executive officer of Statewide and Mental Health Services in Tasmania, a role that covers forensic health services, alcohol and drug services, oral health, and cancer screening and control.
The Ministry of Health says Dr Crawshaw is an Otago Medical School graduate who gained extensive management, clinical and academic experience in New Zealand before going to Tasmania in 2003.
He takes over from David Chaplow, who has retired.
