The organisers of the Rugby World Cup have announced the performers who will sing the national anthems at the final.

Hayley Westenra and Will Martin will lead spectators in singing the national anthems of the top two teams at Auckland's Eden Park on 23 October.

Rugby New Zealand chief executive 2011 Martin Snedden says Ms Westenra's voice will be prominent throughout the cup as her recording of the official song, World in Union, will be played at all 48 matches.

Choirs of local singers have been formed to sing the anthems of each of the 20 teams taking part in games around the country.

The Rugby World Cup begins on 9 September.
