The Transport Agency has announced the route for the next phase of the Christchurch southern motorway, which it says is vital for the city's economic recovery.
However, the choice of routes has concerned residents in the path of the new motorway who believe it would bring increased traffic and noise.
The new route would extend from Halswell Junction Road through to near Robinsons Road on State Highway 1.
The project, estimated to cost up to $200 million, will service the growing area in the city's southwest.
But Sally Tothill says the proposed route would go right through her maze business.
She believes the agency should have chosen a more northern route which would have impacted less on residents.
However, the Transport Agency says the northern option would have cost up $30 million more than the chosen route.
It says the northern route would also have used up important industrial land which will be needed for Christchurch's economic recovery.
