Police have confirmed that two dogs involved in the attack of a boy on the East Coast, were owned by one of its officers.
Brooking Poi, aged six, is in Gisborne hospital after the attack in Ruatoria on Wednesday.
He is in a stable condition and is improving.
His father works for the police, with the owner of the two shar pei crossbred dogs.
No one was home at the time of the dog attack, but a neighbour witnessed it and pulled the child to safety.
Police have confirmed that one of the issues they will be investigating is whether the boy was being supervised before the attack.
Both dogs have been put down.
