Key supports discussion of euthanasia bill

4:22 pm on 8 July 2011

The Prime Minister has told a meeting of predominantly Christian and family lobby groups he would support a bill to legalise euthanasia so that the country could take a closer look at the issue.

John Key was speaking to delegates at the New Zealand Forum on the Family in Auckland on Friday.

Family First, the organisation hosting the forum, opposes euthanasia.

Mr Key says if a euthanasia bill comes before Parliament, he will support it through to the select committee stage.

He says euthanasia is a very sensitive issue and needs to be discussed.
