The Tertiary Education Commission has named 18 industry training organisations that have had to repay $4.2 million in government funding.
Some $2.24 million was repaid by Competenz, the industry training organisation for engineering, manufacturing, baking, and food and beverage manufacturing.
The Government found the organisations received $9.55 million for trainees not actively engaged in any training - including some who were dead.
It reduced the repayment to $4.3 million after it took account of unfunded training arranged by the organisations.
The problem was identified last year and was blamed on poor record keeping by the organisations.
