Auckland police say it's just a coincidence they were doing security checks in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden as a gang party was about to get under way.
The Hell's Angels gang is celebrating its 50th anniversary at its Brentwood Ave headquarters on Saturday night.
Motorists entering the street have been security-checked and had their faces and vehicles photographed by the police.
Police say it was just a routine operation.
They say no extra staff will be stationed in the area but they will act immediately if any incidents occur.
