Iwi welcomes naming of Maungatautari mediator

9:30 am on 11 June 2011

A Waikato iwi is pleased a mediator has been appointed for the troubled Maungatautari Ecological Reserve near Cambridge.

The Treaty negotiator for Ngati Koroki Kahukura, Willie Te Aho, says his tribe is pleased the mediator has been appointed to help resolve a governance dispute.

A deed of settlement due to be signed with the iwi this month was postponed after some landowners threatened to pull down the reserve's pest-proof fence.

Mr Te Aho told Waatea News tribal members were brought up to date at a poukai or Tainui tribal meeting on Friday.
