A man has appeared in court on arson charges following a spate of suspicious fires throughout the Wellington region at the weekend.
The 43-year-old man has been charged with damaging or attempting to damage 11 properties by setting fire to them.
They include two churches in Wainuiomata, a Scout Hall in Seatoun, a chapel in the Karori Cemetery and a tyre shop in Porirua.
The man's name was suppressed when he appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court on Tuesday.
He was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Thursday.
