Deadline extended for Christchurch taxi companies

The deadline for meeting new taxi safety regulations has been extended for Christchurch companies.

From 1 August this year, taxis in cities and larger towns must have security cameras and drivers need to be able to contact a colleague by radio at all times.

Transport Minister Steven Joyce says Christchurch's earthquake-affected taxi industry has enough to contend with at present and has extended their deadline to 1 May next year.
