The Court of Appeal has quashed a ruling that found reason to doubt the legality of many abortions, but has upheld an earlier ruling that New Zealand law does not recognise an unborn child's right to life.
Campaign group Right to Life took the Abortion Supervisory Committee to the High Court arguing many abortions were wrongfully certified.
It claimed the grounds weren't met to show that a woman's mental health was under threat.
The High Court judge found reason to doubt the lawfulness of many abortions but did not make any declarations.
Right to Life went to the Court of Appeal but was told it had not demonstrated any failure.
The Abortion Supervisory Committee also appealed against the finding that there was reason to doubt the legality of many abortions.
A Court of Appeal majority found the judge erred in some findings and has quashed them.
