A Tahitian woman has been hit and killed by a bus while crossing the road outside an Auckland motel.
Jeanine Bennett, 76, was hit on Great South Road in the suburb of Epsom just after 8.30am on Friday.
Police say Ms Bennett and her family were due to leave New Zealand on Sunday.
The No 471 bus operated by Waka Pacific was bound for downtown Auckland.
The company says the driver is shocked and upset but is able to help police with their investigation.
General manager Darek Koper says the road is one of the busiest bus corridors in Auckland and the company is also working with police to find out exactly what happened.
Mr Koper says the driver, who has 24 years' experience, is being supported by his family and colleagues.
Police also want to hear from any passengers who were on the bus at the time, but who left the scene before officers spoke with them.
They would also like to speak with a doctor at the scene immediately after the crash.
