The Crown has signed a Deed of Settlement worth $9 million for all historical Treaty claims by Ngati Manuhiri.
The tribe's claims relate to land on Auckland's eastern coastline from Whangaparoa to Mangawhai.
Minister for Treaty Negotiations Christopher Finlayson says the settlement covers commercial and financial redress as well as the return of six culturally significant sites including 1.2 hectares of land on Little Barrier Island.
The Crown passed legislation in 1896 to compulsorily acquire the island and forcibly remove Ngati Manuhiri residents.
Mr Finlayson says the settlement is another step toward the Government's goal of resolving all Treaty claims by 2014.
