A woman is in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital after being shot at a house in Otaki.
The ambulance service and the police were called to an address in the town just after 4pm on Sunday.
Police say the woman was air-lifted to Wellington Hospital where she is being treated in the intensive care unit.
Police say the scene of the incident is secure and investigations are continuing.
A 26-year-old man is assisting police with their enquiries.
