Police have released the name of the man who died in a house fire in Kaitaia.
He was Hugh David Aarons, 51, a sickness beneficiary who was partly disabled.
His unit in Summerville Avenue caught fire about 7.30am on Thursday.
Neighbours tried to get into the house to save him but were beaten back by heat and smoke.
