Summit on Maori economy

6:38 am on 5 May 2011

Green co-leader Metiria Turia says a Maori economic summit in Auckland on Thursday needs to address the needs of small and rural Maori communities, rather than promoting trophy projects.

Waatea News reports it will hear the final report of the Maori Economic Taskforce and discuss the future direction of the Maori economy.

Ms Turei says that if the summit does not deal with the real situation of Maori families, it will be a waste of time.

She says Maori Economic Taskforce has had plenty of funding over the past two years to come up with fresh ideas.
