Police say the gender of a person killed in a house fire on Auckland's North Shore, cannot yet be determined.
The Fire Service was called to a home in Browns Bay on East Coast Road at about 5pm on Monday.
The body was found after the fire was put out.
A disaster identification team will remove the body on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say it was badly burnt and officers cannot yet tell whether the dead person was male or female.
They say it could take some time before the body is formally identified.
