Food radiation report: Nothing to fear in NZ - officials

12:02 pm on 1 April 2011

Food safety officials say New Zealand consumers have nothing to fear after radiation above the legal limit was found in beef 70km from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

The discovery is the first such finding in meat since the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March triggered the nuclear crisis there.

But the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry says no beef has been imported by New Zealand from Japan in the past 15 months.
