Okaihau farmer takes Northland title

7:30 am on 11 March 2011

A farmer from Okaihau near Kerikeri has won the Northland regional competition of the national Dairy Industry Awards for sharemilkers, managers and trainees.

Murray Jamieson, who has been in the dairy industry for 25 years, is the first equity farm manager winner in the competition.

He has a 20% shareholding in a company milking 1100 cows but doesn't own the herd itself.

Mr Jamieson says the sheer scale of the enterprise provides flexibility, efficiencies and the ability to grow.

Aaron Carter of Whangarei took the Northland farm manager award and Bruce Leslie of Kaiwaka got the nod for trainee of the year.
