The principal of a Waikato school where a girl was badly beaten by classmates says he hopes she will return.

Morrinsville College principal John Inger says the Year Nine pupil was set upon by a group of classmates in a toilet on Tuesday.

The girl was punched and kicked in the head and had a door slammed on her.

She is still absent from school suffering from concussion, but her attackers have all returned after some time away.

Mr Inger says the three attackers are very remorseful and want to meet with the victim to apologise and give her assurances about her future safety.

He says the victim is still unwell but he hopes she will return to the college
